You may already know this, but I have been a fan of Aerofly FS2 for quite some time. The VR experience in this sim is fantastic and it has one of the most amazing helicopters in any simulator out there.

I think the sim has a lot of potential and I have been eagerly waiting – as I know other simmers have as well – to see what IPACS would bring to the sim. The thought of a new helicopter – and the fact that Aerofly FS2 has been demoed in air shows with an AS350/H125 – has been keeping me anticipating for more out of the sim.

Fortunately, as it happens in our hobby, the community has a way to take things on their own hands and make stuff happen. This is the case with this recently released addon for Aerofly FS2. Ladies and gentlemen, Aerofly FS2 forum member larrylynx released a Lynx Mk7 for the sim.

According to the author, the project is to be considered as accurate as he could have possibly done. You see, larrylynx says he is “an ex-Lynx pilot and this Lynx is a very accurate representation, sometimes too accurate”.

Interesting.

I just got it installed and I need to take a look at the manual. Keep in mind that you will need to actually start the aircraft itself (there’s no hot start) and there’s no way to speed up the process.

Larrylynx even puts it in bold on the manual: “IF YOU JUST WANT TO GET IN AND FLY, NO CHECKS AND NO UNDERSTANDING THEN PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE AS THIS LYNX WILL NOT BE FOR YOU. IF YOU CRASH, YOU START FROM SCRATCH...SO DON'T CRASH...THERE IS NO IN-FLIGHT START OR ON THE RUNWAY START.”

Off to read the manual and do my first startup (hopefully).

Meanwhile, go grab this new helicopter for Aerofly FS2 yourself and see how it feels like. I sense there’s a lot to talk about this beauty.
