Which chair do you use? That’s the sort of weird question that the flight simulation community members often ask. If it’s true that in any gaming genre a good chair makes a difference, the place where we spend hours in our hobby takes a whole new dimension for us.

That’s because we need to be able to have our controllers laid out around (or in front of) it in a way that is comfortable and useful.

But that’s even more important if you are looking to use a collective.

Having a lever on the left side of your chair seems like a simple-enough concept. But is it?

You need to have the room for it and it needs to be rock-solid, otherwise you won’t be able to be precise enough to keep your helicopter under control.

VIRPIL knows that and they are now asking the community to contribute as they are designing mountings for their collective line of products.

On a post in their forums, the company indicates the following:

Hello VIRPILs!

We have recently revealed our upcoming helicopter controls project starting with the new VPC Collective Bases and Grips.

Due to the unique nature of collective controls, we’re reviewing all mounting options to allow for compatibility across a wide range of setups.

Today we’d like to call on the community to help us with collecting data on common desk chair setups! If the upcoming range of VPC Collective Controllers interest you please consider submitting a few images of your desk chair;

While I am sure most of the regular office and gaming chairs will make the list, having more feedback – and more chair designs may be useful to VIRPIL and allow them to create a broader system that will fit a big portion of the chairs out there.

So, head out to the VIRPIL forums, check what’s there already and contribute if you think it could make a difference. It will be a big help for sure.
