During this update, Sebastian mentioned a couple of important points.

The first one has to do with the CFD, or Computational Fluid Dynamics, which we have seen in a previous video. CFD will come out in Sim Update 9 but only for the Cessna 172, as the team continues to evolve the system.

Since the new system changes so much, Asobo wants to take it slowly.

The other point has to do with something that Sebastian already mentioned before – and I was really happy to see it being addressed, which is the way helicopter blades move in space, how they bend and how lift is not the same across the blade and around the rotor disk. Sebastian also mentions gyroscopic effect, which shows the team is getting deeper into all the different (and crazy) physics helicopters force developers to get into.

Changes in propellers are amazing, but rotors and rotor blades are not propellers. I have been worried about it, but Sebastian put me at ease – twice now – by mentioning those differences.

Of course, all this also affects fixed-wing aircraft so, in a way, helicopters are making everything better in the sim! Right? Right!

The whole explanation of where Asobo is right now and what’s coming next is quite interesting and you can (and should) watch it here.
