Aerosoft Offshore Landmarks: Gulf of Mexico for MSFS

As soon as Aerosoft mentioned their North Sea product, we could hear some voices rising and asking about a potential future Gulf of Mexico scenery pack. The region is also very well-known for its offshore operations, so it made sense some folks started wondering.

Aerosoft listened – or perhaps was planning for it already – and we are going to have a new scenery pack covering this region.

Aerosoft Offshore Landmarks: Gulf of Mexico for MSFSThe company says that one of the biggest differences between the upcoming Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea product is the fact that this new product will “focus less on ships (not nearly as many) and more on oil (and some gas) rigs. The North Sea oil and gas industry is super-regulated. Only the big companies are involved. In the Gulf, where the oil fields are often on the coastlines, you might find 10 companies next to each other having oil wells on the land, the beach and on simple structures a few hundred yards off the coast. I mean really small, like 10 by ten meters. Wild west. Thousands of structures.”

As you can see in the map below.

Aerosoft Offshore Landmarks: Gulf of Mexico for MSFS

In Offshore Landmarks: North Sea had objects containing 5.000.000 polygons and the whole scenery contained over 1 billion polygons total. Microsoft Flight Simulator handled it very well so Aerosoft decided to push it a bit more and they are going to include objects with four times the amount of polygons: 20 million. Crazy.
