While the company has released the sim to the public, this is still not the final release. We have seen Laminar Research calling it either a public Alpha or a public Beta, which are, of course, different stages in the software development cycle.
Being an Alpha means not all features are added. A Beta version means all features are in and the developers are just ironing out any bugs.
If I had to guess, I’d say we are somewhere in the middle. Most if not all features are in, although some are not finished.
Like VR, for example.
Exactly, VR is not ready. If you try to use it, you’ll be in for quite an unpleasant surprise. During my tests, I have had awful performance and the clouds are just horrible. I don’t mean this as criticism towards Laminar Research. They have indicated VR is not ready and we should, of course, expect that to be true.

Update (2022-09-06): server issues seem to be past us. A reader also told us he asked Austin and X-Plane 12 was already submitted to Steam. We are waiting on confirmation.
