X-Plane 11.10 Release Notes are out (and helicopters are mentioned)

X-Plane 11.10 is almost upon us and Laminar Research has the Release Notes out. Helicopters and tilt-rotors are mentioned quite often.

The list is extensive (as expected) and, in the middle of so much cool stuff, we can find things such as

More tuning of the propwash (and thus hover power requirement) and vortex ring state and effective translational lift based on momentum conservation and actual helicopter performance data. Definitely more accuracy there now, based on a lot of testing against very precise Bell-206 performance data in ground effect, out of ground affect, and at various flight speeds as well, and also in various decent rates including settling with power and power-off vortex-ring-state.

Helos hovering backwards? Helos hovering in a tailwind? Taxiing slowly with a tailwind? Tailslides? SPINS, where SOME PART of the plane may be going backwards? These are all reasons we want to handle flows at ALL angles perfectly… all the way to REVERSE! Crazy but true, and all part of the obsessive quest for mathematical perfection!

and let's not forget

XPD-7952 Bug report: Helicopter flight model.

Mr. Austin Meyer, thank you VERY much for all the love.

Go check the full list here.

About Sérgio Costa

Sérgio has been a flight simulation enthusiast for nearly 25 years. His passion with helicopters developed during MSFS 2000 when he discovered the complexity of these aircraft and the challenge it was to control them. Since then he has been primarily a helicopter flight simmer, trying his best not to crash and kill all his virtual passengers. Sérgio is HeliSimmer.com's editor and writer and one of the Three Grumpy Simmers, a YouTube series and Podcast produced together with YouTubers Bel Geode and NovaWing24, obviously dedicated to flight simulation.
