The Sud-Ouest S.O. 1221 is one of those obscure projects that I honestly haven’t heard of until I got my attention brought to this release.
Sud-Ouest, which later became Sud Aviation (developers of the Alouette line of helicopters) was the first helicopter developed by the company and also the first top-jet rotorcraft to enter production.
This means that the rotor is not moved by the engine but by compressed air jets placed at the tip of the rotor blades, which eliminates the anti-torque rotor.
